By the time the energy reached our coast, it had little effect. The sea levels did get lower than normal, and about a third of the boats in the marina went out to sea (just in case, it is always miles safer being at sea during a tsunami than on shore as there is virtually no risk. Tsunamis look like a regular wave, only moving much much faster, until approaching shallow water where their large amplitude needs space to land, creating a surge.) The water came rushing back into the marina like a small river, churning against the tide as it was going out. All seemed clear, and once the warning was officially lifted I got myself to the beach as it was an amazing day not to be missed sitting inside!
