mamaki to whananaki

Work at OceansWatch is going well...applying to grants, writing and updating proposals for new and existing programs and attempting to get things ready for the Australian promotional tour starting on October 28th (I leave on Sunday yay!!) have been keeping me busy. Since OW is such a new and young organization, we are trying to get the word out about the work we do as many ways possible, and since I practically majored in facebook, I knew a group wasn't enough. We needed a cause. Join here!

After a long week of work, we took the advice of our neighbors, checked the weather, and decided to brave the questionable clouds (it is after all, the land of the long white cloud) and head out on a 3-4 hour hike up the coast. From huge green hills lined with cows through the bush with grass up to our knees to miles of beach without another soul in sight to the longest footbridge in the southern hemisphere, the Tutukaka coast is really one of the most wonderful places to spend a day walking, even if you do get terribly lost and step in mud very often.

beautifully isolated beach

me, lisa and sam super excited to have just walked across the longest footbridge south of the equator (I have no idea what the longest in the north is)

Great Barrier Island in the distance, South Pacific Ocean, and my dream house in the forefront.

Below is a video of some friends who joined us for part of our journey. Click play!
